Qualifications:
Desire to establish friendship with an isolated elder.
Effective communication skills: ability to listen attentively and initiate conversation.
Sensitivity to needs of isolated elder facing difficult life circumstances.
Commitments:
Visit an isolated elder at least twice a month for one year.
Time and days are flexible, based on needs of elder and availability of volunteer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Visit isolated elders at least twice a month and maintain consistent contact.
Assist elder in meeting needs by working together with the older adult, social service network, and ElderFriends staff.
Keep in contact with ElderFriends regarding progress of relationship, elder's needs, and changes in circumstances.
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Attend initial training session
Pass background check
Submit at least two references
